ERASMUS+ UK NATIONAL AGENCY APPROVES OUR PROJECT FINAL REPORT AND RESULTS!
30 September 2023
Successful Conclusion of the
ERASMUS+ Weaving Webs of Stories Project
The Weaving Webs of Stories literacy project funded by the European Commission under the ERASMUS+ Strategic Partnerships (School Education) programme has now successfully concluded.
Developed by Every Child and submitted by applicant organisation the Finsbury Park Trust, the project was approved in 2019 and delivered effectively by partners in seven countries even through COVID, with an extension granted because of the inevitable delays caused across Europe by the pandemic.
The project has met all its stated goals, with impressive feedback all round. It ended with a positive, and sometimes emotional final transnational meeting in September 2022, with partners celebrating and also marking the final involvement of UK organisations in ERASMUS-funded work following Brexit.
We are grateful for the support of our National Agency, enabling us to deliver the project to a high standard. Thanks too to all the schools and staff who helped deliver the programme, and to the students who took part.
We dedicate the project outputs to all those young people across our partnership countries who participated in the literacy and inclusion sessions.
About Our Project
Project Aims
- To improve participants’ literacy, and at the same time enable them to question and challenge stereotypes, discrimination and prejudice against specific social and ethnic groups within our society;
- To promote a culture of “reading for pleasure”; and
- To develop young people’s creative skills, particularly through making imaginative stories and artwork promoting equality and inclusion.
How the project worked
Experienced tutors, creative writers and artists ran 12-week courses with young people, developing new ways to engage children in making their own stories, art works and performances, boosting competence in reading, comprehension and creative writing – taking participants on an imaginative journey.
The courses built on Every Child’s extensive experience delivering arts-based learning and literacy projects for young people, in the UK and across Europe – unleashing the power of the imagination to boost literacy, confidence, motivation and engagement, as well as addressing the continuing challenge of intolerance and prejudice.
The programme used the tried and tested principles and methodology of non-formal out of school hours learning, as developed in the UK by the Department for Education and Canterbury Christ Church University – with inclusivity, fun and enjoyment at its heart.
Outcomes and next steps
The partners have now created a self-learning Training Course supported by a strategy handbook and further reading materials, all freely available on the project website.
We hope these resources will benefit schools and teachers, creative artists and education NGOs across Europe in helping young people challenge negative stereotypes and prejudice, at a time far right ideology appears to be making advances in Europe.
